What on Earth is a doula? Why would I want one? Is that the hippie thing?
Valid questions! Here’s the short version:
A doula can help provide resources and information before, during, and after your delivery. Most importantly, though, a doula can provide continuous care throughout the birthing process. While doctors, nurses, and midwives will be present intermittently to check on fetal heartrate, body temperature, and cervical dilation (among other medical activities), a doula will stay with you through the entire labor to provide information, comfort measures, and a reassuring presence.
